History of Mysore Palace

The construction of Mysore Palace was started in the year 1897 and the construction was finished in year 1912.The current Owner of the Mysore Palace is Maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar. The Architect of Mysore Palace is Henry Irwin. He was assigned by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and his mother Maharani Kempananjammanni Devi to build a new palace after the old Palace also known as the wooden palace was burnt into ashes in the year 1896 during the festival of Dussehra.The construction was overseen by B. P. Raghavulu Naidu.He was planning to build a new place based on the elaborate architectural studies that he conducted during his traveling in many places like Delhi,Calcutta etc.The construction cost for this Palace was fixed at the rate of Rs 41,47,913 and the construction of this palace was finished in the year 1912.

Architectural Style of the Palace

The architectural style of the palace is Indo-Saracenic style with a touch of Hindu, Mughal, Rajput, and Gothic architectural styles.This architectural style was mainly based on the style of the domes of the palace. The bulk of the palace is made of granite, the domes are made of marble, the function hall also known as “kalyan mantapa” has cast iron pillars and few ceilings have stained glass.
